A TinyURL with an opinion

August 22nd, 2007

The TinyURL.com service allows you to instantly generate short URLs from long ones. For example, a link to a long URL at Wikimedia Commons becomes http://tinyurl.com/2lp8q4. Each new URL submission is added to a database, and the next free alphanumeric string is set as an identifier.

Naturally, I had to try some rather amusing subsets of the range of alphanumeric possibilities. (Read: Offensive language ahead.)

Will Goode be an issue?

July 2nd, 2006

I just realized that with all the talk about whether Webb or Miller would be more electable against Goode, I didn't hear much talk about whether Goode would even be in the running once the MZM stuff was over with.

Okay, no more late-night posting. (Maybe that way I won't get Virgil Goode and George Allen confused again.)

Delegate Marshall, aspiring criminal?

June 17th, 2006

Try to find what is wrong in this line of argument by Del. Marshall [source]:

Equality Virginia says it represents gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people who are opposed to the marriage amendment. So, how are the bisexuals to gain their "rights" without having one marriage partner of each sex? What do they really want?

If you still don't see it, let's try replacing one civil right with another:

Why does Marshall insist on the right to a fair and speedy trial? How is he going to gain his "rights" without committing a crime? Is that what he really wants to do?

It seems Mr. Marshall, by his own logic, is planning on exercising every right in the book. Perhaps he should be arrested, a la Minority Report, as a potential menace to society.

Or maybe there's a fault in the logic somewhere.

Thanks to Cory for the tip.

Cory shreds the anti-gay agenda

June 6th, 2006

Cory Capron has an excellent analysis of the recent attempts to institute an anti-gay-marriage constitutional amendment, which would define marriage as a union between one man and one woman. He shreds each of the major points, expertly dissecting the homophobic rhetoric and exposing it as contradictory and unfounded.

Creating an embassy

May 19th, 2006

Does anybody know how one might establish an embassy? For example, could I just declare a building on my property a Nigerian embassy? I assume it is a bit harder than that, but I've been having trouble locating any information on the topic for some reason...
