I just had a fun debate with my roommate over whether eating people is wrong. It started when he was channel-surfing and flipped past “Red Dragon”, the prequel to “Silence of the Lambs”. How Sony is cracking your computer – all over again

Update: The recent "patch" that the rootkit's developer released does not actually fix the problem -- do not install it! It adds more software of the same type, probably better hidden and more dangerous. Do not trust any software or hardware from First4Internet or Sony BMG Music ever again. Now, here's my original post.

After this Halloween's revelation that Sony is installing rootkits without authorization through copy-protected CDs, I'm even happier that I switched to Linux. If you haven't heard of this recent development, you should read up on it. I'll give a glossary and a response.

What’re you looking at, ya prokaryote?

Hey, yo momma’s an amoeba! No, really. I’ve come to the conclusion that there is no essential difference between single- and multi-cellular organisms. I put together some ideas about cholera, biomats, slime molds, sex cells and somatic cells, and phosphorescent squid, and that’s what I got. Maybe not the conclusion that most people would logically reach, but that’s why you’re reading my blog, not theirs.

Faith and existentialism

I used to have a basic dilemma regarding existentialism and faith. I define faith as those beliefs which one cannot derive from facts or observations. The basic existentialist crisis for me was that I found that there were no beliefs I could logically hold true. Every belief had to rely on some other beliefs, and eventually I ran out of firm truths. Every logical system needs axioms as a foundation. Even perception is suspect.
